Four Seasons Fly Fishers Educational Programs

Clinics and Classes
The Four Seasons Fly Fishers Clinic and Class program is designed for those that are residing relatively close to the river and looking to further their understanding of the sport and pastime that we are all so fond of. The format is a group setting. All classes need at least three participants to be scheduled. This format allows all of us at Four Seasons Fly Fishers to offer the classes at extremely competitive rates.

On Water Clinics:
The Four Seasons Fly Fishers Utah fly fishing 'On Water' Clinics are designed to give the participant meaningful learning experiences through the actual act of ‘seeing' and ‘doing' on the water. Classes are conducted by members of the Four Seasons Utah fly fishing guide staff. The classes run for three hours and will be scheduled at the most appropriate time of day for the given exercise.

Nymph ClinicsProvo River Stonefly Nymph
The Nymph Clinic explores the science of sub-surface fly fishing. This is a great introductory clinic of which any ability zone can participate in. The Nymph Clinic format begins with an approach to moving water and establishes a terminology of how to discuss the different places fish tend to reside. There will be a basic discussion on entomology with a demonstration of a seine in the river. There will be a demonstration of the differing rigs and methods for sub-surface presentation culminating with 'putting it all together' at the end of the class and ideally harvesting some of the fruits of the topics discussed.

Dry Fly Clinics
Provo River Dry Fly FishingThe Dry Fly Clinic is a 'presentation' class designed around a specific insect hatch. The cirriculum varies from month to month along with the insect hatches. For example: April Dry Fly Clinics will focus on Blue Winged Olives. The format will include insect identification and discussion of the life cycles and behaviors of that particular insect. After better understanding that insect - the class will observe the insects in their natural cycle and learn to mimic those phases of their life cycle that the fish are seemingly 'keying' on. Participants need to be flexible on scheduled times: at Four Seasons, we can observe when and where the hatches are - but we can not control or provoke the natural cycle of life on the river.

Czech, Polish & Pockets: Feeling for TroutCzech and Polish Style Nymphs
The Feeling for Trout clinic is an intermediate to advanced ability zone clinic designed to help those anglers that have become familiar with the sport to add yet another trick to their bag of goodies. Dead drift nymphing can be very effective in pools and slower moving bodies of water. Watching an indicator move through the water is a skill that is visually oriented. The Czech and Polish approaches to nymphing rely more on your sense of feel as opposed to sight. Pocket water trout will have usually eaten your fly and spit it out before an indicator will let you know anything has happened. On the Feeling for Trout Clinic: you will learn to effectively rig for Czech and Polish methods, make short and deliberate casts to trout in faster water and discuss the best equipment for learning this new approach to fly fishing for trout.

Streamer Clinics
The Streamer Clinic is a class designed for the better understanding and mimicry of small fishes, leaches and developing skill sets in provoking predatory responses in large game fishes.

All ‘On Water' Clinics are available for $75 per participant

Casting Clinics
Four Seasons Fly Fishers offers casting clinics in four ability zones: beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert.
Casting Clinics are conducted in the park adjacent to Four Seasons Fly Fisher's physical facility in Heber City, Utah. The reasoning behind learning to cast on the mowed lawn as opposed to the river is that the park is a safe, distraction free environment. Learning can take place there without struggling with the trees, the bushes, the slippery rocks or distractions created by the fishes themselves.
The durration of the class is about an hour and a half. In that time; participants will address a specific task according to the group's ability zone and discover how to improve their fly casting through the completion of that task.

All Casting Clinics are available for $25 per participant

Indoor Clinics and Classes:

Fly Tying ClinicsFly Tying Instruction
The Four Seasons Fly Tying Program is based around a weekly, indoor class schedule (typically held in the evenings) that runs four consecutive weeks. Advanced reservations will be accepted for these classes; after which classes will commence as soon as there are enough participants. Participants will learn to produce a series of highly recommended local fly patterns. Each of those flies will require an essential new trick to the craft and science of fly assembly. By the end of the program: participants should have acquired the skill and ability to manufacture a handful of essential trout flies independently.

Fly Tying Clinics are available for $100 plus an additional material cost of $25 per participant.
